William Haydon finally secured victory in Event 26 of the 2010 WSOP – the $2.5k 6-Max Hold'em, which ended after a close battle amongst six-handed standards.
Jeff Papola was forced to move all-in with A♠ 6♥ all a few hands of heads-up play, but Haydon had A♣ J♥, and flop came K♠ Q♠ 4♥ and Papola hoped for a six. But, he wasn’t just in luck as 9♣ came on, and Papola needed a miracle river card to survive, but that wasn’t meant to be Papola’s day.
The river card came as T♦, and Haydon finished in first place with a handsome $630,031 payout, while Jeff Papola had to be content with second place, and total payout of $391,068, which wasn’t disappointing by any means!
The 2010 WSOP $2.5k 6-Max Hold'em Event kicked off with 1,245 runners featuring the likes of David Benefield, Sorel Mizzi, and Daniel Negreanu
It started with 1,245 runners and saw players like Daniel Negreanu, Sorel Mizzi and David Benefield, but most of the big guns got eliminated in the later stages leaving Haydon and Papola to compete for supremacy and the bracelet. The average stack was $9,337,500, and it was an action packed evening in Las Vegas.
Papopla, 2008 Aruba Classic third place finisher was one of the strong contenders, but Haydon made it to the final table literally out of nowhere, and the other hot favortite Steve Cowley got eliminated along with the other top contenders with a very short experience at the final table.
The leaderboard stacks before the final table were Jeff Papola - 2.8 million, Joe Baldwin - 2.1 million, followed by Eddy Scharf at 1.4 million, William Haydon - 1.3 million, and Jarred Solomon - 1.1 million. But, nobody ever thought in their wildest dreams that Haydon will walk away with the 2010 WSOP bracelet.
At 7:45 p.m. the official final table of six did not include Justin "BoostedJ" Smith, Etayo, and Smith who got all-in with J♦ T♥, ending up at eight spot receiving $55,236, in his clash against Joe Baldwin's A♦ K.
On the other hand, Javier Etayo had a great Spanish support, but he failed to make it to the final table, as he got all-in with A♥ K♠ against Jarred Solomon's Q♠ Q♣; a sudden twist of fate!
Etayo finished at seventh spot, and picked $55,236, while the top6 had a heated game on the final table, but the other 4 went out of the final table too early.
About Haydon
The 23year old winner comes from Palo Alto, CA, and happens to be a professional poker player who was a golf player before taking up Poker as full time profession.
He boasts of lifetime tournament winnings of about $662,994, and he has been fairly consistent in the Poker arena, though this was Haydon’s maiden WSOP bracelet.
His victory in the Full Tilt Poker $750,000 Guarantee was one of his most featured victories in past, and of course now Haydon can proudly boast of his WSOP bracelet too. But, as far as experience goes, this young gun has grown into an experienced professional poker player.
